I'm Asrul Hanafi, the founder of Resmume. Let me tell you a bit about my journey and how Resmume came to be.
My Journey
I spent 9 years working as a software engineer at a startup in Indonesia. In 2022, while I was hunting for new job opportunities, I realized that my resume needed to stand out from the crowd. But I kept running into the same problem most resume makers out there used templates that were either too flashy or just not professional enough. Plus, some required installation and weren’t user-friendly at all.
That's when I had my lightbulb moment. Since I like building things, I thought, "Why not create a free resume maker that’s easy to use, easy to access, and offers professional templates?" And that's how Resmume was born.
The Early Days
When I first launched Resmume, it didn’t get much attention. I was a solopreneur with less than 100 followers on Twitter. So, I decided to focus on optimizing SEO, improving technical aspects, and building links on various product launch platforms. It took about six months, but Resmume finally started gaining traction and a steady stream of users.
In the meantime, I landed a new job at a startup using a resume I created with Resmume. My Twitter followers started growing, and some friends even began using Resmume for their own job applications. One friend struggled with editing his resume repeatedly for different job positions, which led to the creation of the multiple profiles feature. Now, you can create different resumes for various jobs without starting from scratch each time.
Embracing AI
Around the same time, AI chatbots like ChatGPT were becoming really popular. I saw a huge opportunity to improve Resmume by integrating AI. I started with features like grammar correction and making the language more formal and professional.
I also noticed a lot of people in the job-seeking community asking for resume reviews. I often found myself checking resumes over and over to ensure they were perfect before submission. This inspired me to develop a resume review feature. Now, Resmume can automatically review resumes, making sure everything is spot-on, and help others do the same.
Achievements
I tried applying to several companies in Indonesia to test Resmume's effectiveness, and 90% of the resumes I submitted through Resmume got interview calls. Since then, Resmume has received a lot of positive feedback from users:
